Carol Standing – The Slimming Clinic
Hi, I’m Carol Standing and I am the Marketing Director at The Slimming Clinic.
What is the most important benefit of running your own business?
I love working in the weight loss sector. I find it rewarding when we help someone achieve their health goal. Of course, the physical changes are often impressive, but what I love most is the growth in their confidence and enthusiasm for life.
What qualities do you appreciate most in the people that you work with?
My colleagues really care – about each other and our patients. They will do their best to help whenever they can.
What is your biggest top tip that you would give to someone just starting their own business?
Build your group of raving fans first. They will help inform you of the product or service they are willing to buy. That might be different from your ideas.
What is the mistake you’ve made in your business journey that has taught you the most?
It’s all about cash flow in the early days.
What are your main values in your business life and how have they impacted where your business is today?
My main values are to
• Take personal responsibility for being the best that you can. Of course, there will be bumps in the road but taking responsibility will help you react better and come up with a solution
• Every day is a new day – a chance to go again. Yesterday has gone, it might have been good, or it might not. But today is the chance for a fresh start.
• Keep learning and be inquisitive. The people that I see doing well in the business and in business generally and eager to learn, will ask questions and take it upon themselves to dedicate time to personal development.
Thank you to Carol for sharing your expertise and offering us a glimpse into your experience of running your own business!
